Our Review of the Schwinn Joyrider Trailer

Parents are demanding more versatility from their bicycle trailers and strollers, and convertible child carriers that can safely transport children in a variety of situations are gaining popularity. Why own a bicycle trailer AND a jogging stroller AND a walking stroller when you can get all these elements in one, all purpose wheeled kid carrier? The Schwinn Joyrider Trailer will safely transport one or two children, with a max weight capacity of 100lbs. It has all the comforts and safety measures of high-end bike trailers, plus easy convertibility to a walking or jogging stroller and a look that may make you the talk of the neighborhood.

What does the Joyrider Trailer offer you?

The chassis of the Schwinn Joyrider Trailer is a rustproof aluminum frame mounted on 20" alloy wheels. In bike trailer mode, the Joyrider Trailer attaches to any bicycle with the versatile hitch arm, allowing you to cruise with the kid(s) in style. In addition, the Joyrider comes complete with a 10" front swivel wheel and an adjustable, removable handlebar for strolling indoors and on smooth surfaces. A 16" jogging stroller wheel allows you to take your Joyrider onto the track or trails for a jog or sprint. When not in use, the Joyrider Trailer folds down flat for easy storage.

What does the Joyrider Trailer offer your kids?

For your kids, the Joyrider Trailer comes with a removable, washable seat pad and dual 5 point harnesses. The domed canopy gives the Joyrider its unique look, and provides an extra roomy cockpit space. An included zip in weather canopy will keep the rain out, while the cool-looking bubbled screened canopy provides ventilation and keeps the inside from getting stuffy (or stinky). The seat drops back for tired passengers, or those just inclined to recline.

Bottom Line: In the world of strollers and bicycle trailers, Schwinn is a mid-range brand, and the Joyrider Trailer is their top-of-the-line offering. Schwinn trailers and strollers provide the essentials at a reasonable price, but quality can sometimes be an issue. At 30+ pounds, the Joyrider is heavier than most other convertible trailers from Chariot or Burley, but that extra weight reflects the durability of the frame and the extra-roomy cockpit.

Very Happy

We are very happy with our stroller/trailer. We had some problems at first but the Schwinn representative was very helpful and replaced our defective one. My one problem with the stroller is that there are many doors it will not go through, we have to remove a wheel in order for it to go through a regular sized doorframe.

Do yourself a favor and get this stroller if you want one that is: well engineered, made of sturdy materials, is safe, looks great, has plenty of room, and is versatile! I was BEYOND impressed with this right out of the box. It glides and turns like it's a hover craft! ;-)WAY better than I thought it was going to be. I have 2 year old twins and this trailer/stroller is the BEST I've seen. (money no object)VERY smart design and folds quite small for what it is.

Love it

We love our joyrider. It is one of the few trailers out there that is actually built to also be a jogger rather than having a conversion kit that makes a make-shift jogger. We only have one child right now and she loves it - the five point harness makes it easy to keep her upright for the trip (our friends have a trailer in the same price range and their son who is a year older than our daughter can't stay upright in theirs). We live in the city with horribly uneven sidewalks and the trailer takes each bump along the way with no troubles. I would definitely recommend this jogger!

I had another double stroller, but it just did not meet all of my transportation needs. This stroller/bike trailer works very well. I really like the mesh cover (it has come in use to keep the mosquitoes out these last few weeks). The wind/rain cover easily attaches and works well in keeping the wind and cold out of the cockpit. I have also used it to shade the kids. It easily converts from a bicycle trailer to a stroller. Also, it is possible to steer the stroller with one hand (if you need your other hand to hold a cup of coffee or a hand of a child). I wish the jogger stroller wheel was included. Overall, I love this stroller/bike trailer and would highly recommend it.

Joyrider Trailer

Great Trailer/Stroller. Easy to use. Kids love it. It keeps them cool, but gives them a sense of security. Comfy seats. Seatbelts are OK to use. I wish they were 5 point harnesses instead of 3. It has a lot of storage areas. Kids can get in and out on their own. The break works great - no slipping. I wish this product had been around before we bought our double stroller.
