Reviews for Chariot Corsaire XL bike trailer
Worth the wait...

I'm a car-lite cyclist who tries to do everything possible by bike, in whatever kind of weather. My stable of bikes ranges from a mod trials bike, Dual Slalom bike, a fixed-gear 29er, a 24" bmx cruiser and an Xtracycle-equipped MTB. I do my own wrenching and wheel building because there are no 24hr local bike shops (lbs). I'm willing to pay extra for quality. I chose the Chariot trailer because I believe it is the best trailer on the market, and I chose the Corsaire XL because it was the largest model Chariot offered. I love how Chariot trailers are modular and versatile. I think I will purchase the jogger kit for my trailer in the future. I already have a BOB jogger, but the wife keeps that in the car, and I don't want to lug that around on my Xtracycle. The trailer feels weightless if you're pulling it around by the handle. The bearings are very smooth, and the trailer rolls easily. I love the vinyl covers that make this trailer water resistant, and if you still need more water resistance, Chariot sells a rain cover. I'm a fan of the CAS system for each side, so that if you have two children riding, you can adjust the damping for their weights. The quality on the Corsaire XL is outstanding and well worth the additional price especially when I use this trailer everyday if possible. With a weight rating of 100 lbs, I can tote my kid around for a few years, and after that, Chariot offers a way to convert the corsaire into a cargo trailer.
The only things I would change about this trailer would be the ability to swap out the vinyl side windows with mesh, add a hand operated brake, and add a reclining seat. I can get by without the hand brake, because this trailer is used as a bike trailer.
I'm going to add more reflective material to the trailer's sides and rear, and am also going to be buying some schwalbe tires that have reflective sidewalls. I managed to lose my flag the first day, so I'll have to make another one in the future. Some may complain about the smaller cargo area compared to other trailers, but remember, I'm using an Xtracycle that can carry 200lbs, so I've got storage to spare. I even have a bike rack mounted so I can bring an extra bike along.
I'm glad I saved up and spent the extra money on this trailer. I use it more than most people out there, so I've gotten my money out of it many times already. Waiting for my child to turn one was the longest year of my life. I'm so glad I can take my kid with me everywhere now!

Everything I asked for

This was a wonderful step up from a 6 year old InStep Quick N EZ. I bike with my 4 year old to pick up my first grader at school (80 lbs total weight). It is a 4 mile round trip up some hilly roads. The Corsaire is smooth pulling and the kids have a great ride. They sometimes will fall asleep. I like that better than the fighting that they can now do, because they aren't so scrunched.
The only problem that I had was that when I unlatched the cover to get the kids out, sometimes the cover would fall all the way off. I think I attached it incorrectly. I fixed the problem with a couple of zip ties. I like the inside pockets to carry snacks. The back compartment has plenty of room to store the backpack and lunch box. The weather here has made it possible for me to continue biking and using the trailer even this week. I can't wait for nicer weather to use it more often.

Great for tall kids

I purchased a Corsaire in 2006 so that I could train for a 60km walking event. My son was six and tall for his age. This was the only jogging stroller available to suit his height. It is easy to use, dismantle and he was very comfortable. We loved the Chariot! He loved his morning rides, and took breakfast with him.

Corsaire bike trailer

We purchased this to go jogging and biking with our 1 year old twins. It works great. The seating area and harness provides great support and there is enough room where they aren't squished inside the cabin.

top-notch quality

While the Corsaire is not as streamline as the other Chariot models, I selected the Corsaire XL because my 6-yr old daughter is reaching a height where she'd be cramped in the smaller versions. The Corsaire is very roomy and she fits fine (even with her 2-yr brother present).
The quality of the product is outstanding. As a bike trailer, a jogger and even a stroller, this unit is excellent. I also have the hiking package but will caution readers that the up-and-down motion of your shoulders transfers all the way to where the hiking attachment hooks into the Chariot and this leads to a bouncy, up-and-down, head jarring ride for the kids. If you walk slow, the bounce is minimal but any attempt to pick up the pace or even jog simply doesn't work unless you like dizzy, disoriented and slightly brain-damaged kids.
The Corsaire also has ample storage space in the rear compartment behind the seat.
If you're looking at the price tag and contemplating less expensive brands, I can tell you that you will not be disappointed with Chariot quality and engineering. They're not cheap, but when you get your Chariot, you'll know that it was money well spent.
